The zippered expansion adds extra packing depth. On a checked bag the practical limits are the 158 cm linear size rule and your airline's weight allowance rather than a sizer, so expand freely on the way home, but keep an eye on the scale.

Use a 50/50 mixture of alcohol and water, apply with a soft cloth, and gently rub the affected area until the spot lifts. Let the bag air dry completely before storing. A little lemon juice in the mixture freshens the fabric.
