We publish both numbers. The case dimensions, the packing body only, are 69.8 x 47 x 30.5 cm. The overall dimensions, which include wheels and carry handles, are 77.5 x 49.5 x 30.5 cm. When airlines publish size limits they mean the overall size, so compare the overall number to your airline's limit.

Airlines add height, width and depth together for checked bag limits. This bag measures 147 cm total by case dimensions and 158 cm including wheels and handles. The standard checked bag limit on most airlines is 158 cm. This bag sits within that limit. More detail in our luggage size guide.

Most airlines cap standard checked bags at 23 kg. This bag weighs 4.94 kg empty, which leaves about 18.1 kg of packing before standard overweight fees. At 114 litres it is possible to out-pack the weight limit before you run out of space, so a luggage scale is a good companion for long trips. The zippered expansion adds extra packing depth. On a checked bag the practical limits are the 158 cm linear size rule and your airline's weight allowance rather than a sizer, so expand freely on the way home, but keep an eye on the scale.

The lock ships set to 0-0-0. To set your own code: turn the dials to 0-0-0, remove the zipper pullers from the lock, press the reset button on the side of the lock with a pen until it clicks, choose your combination, then press or slide the release button. Combine mild soap and water, apply with a soft cloth, gently rub until clean, rinse well, and let the bag air dry completely before storing. Surface scuffs on hard shells are cosmetic and do not affect performance.
