Frequently Asked Questions
Do the listed dimensions include wheels and handles?
We publish both numbers. The case dimensions, the packing body only, are 61 x 39.4 x 29.2 cm. The overall dimensions, which include wheels and carry handles, are 68.6 x 43.2 x 29.2 cm. When airlines publish size limits they mean the overall size, so compare the overall number to your airline's limit.
Will I owe oversize fees on this bag?
Airlines add height, width and depth together for checked bag limits. This bag measures 130 cm total by case dimensions and 141 cm including wheels and handles. The standard checked bag limit on most airlines is 158 cm. This bag sits within that limit. More detail in our luggage size guide.
How much can I pack before hitting airline weight limits?
Most airlines cap standard checked bags at 23 kg. This bag weighs 4.2 kg empty, which leaves about 18.8 kg of packing before standard overweight fees. At 89 litres it is possible to out-pack the weight limit before you run out of space, so a luggage scale is a good companion for long trips. Allowances vary by airline and fare, see our luggage size guide.
Does the expansion matter on a checked bag?
The zippered expansion adds extra packing depth. On a checked bag the practical limits are the 158 cm linear size rule and your airline's weight allowance rather than a sizer, so expand freely on the way home, but keep an eye on the scale.
How do I make a warranty claim or get repairs?
Start a claim through our customer contact form with photos of the issue and your proof of purchase, or make sure your product is registered in our database. If the issue is covered, Travelpro will repair the bag, replace the defective part, or replace the bag with a product of comparable value. You can also verify the coverage for your collection on our Warranty & Repair page.
How do I clean and care for it?
Combine mild soap and water, apply with a soft cloth, gently rub until clean, rinse well, and let the bag air dry completely before storing. Surface scuffs on hard shells are cosmetic and do not affect performance.
What warranty does this come with?
Travelpro products are covered against defects in materials and workmanship, on top of your 2-year legal guarantee of conformity under EU law. See our Warranty & Repair page for the coverage that applies to this product, plus a 14-day free returns period if you change your mind.

I was worried this would
"I was worried this would be too small for a checked bag but it worked out perfect! Not too heavy. The wheels and handle are incredible! Money well spent."
Love the Optima!
"What a great suitcase! The Optima is spacious yet lightweight. It is easy to maneuver because the wheels move in all directions. Love the expandable feature since it adds a significant amount of packing space. The inside compartments are great to keep things organized and in place. It is plenty of space for 7 days worth of clothes (especially in the summer months). Definitely recommend Travelpro !"
Sleek, Spacious & Lightweight
"I absolutely love my Travelpro Optima Expandable Medium bag! It’s sleek, lightweight, and surprisingly spacious. It held all of my clothes perfectly while still being easy to maneuver. The expandable feature is a huge plus, and the quality feels durable and well-made. Perfect for travel without feeling bulky — highly recommend!"
I really do love this
"I really do love this new suitcase. There are some additional features like a side handle, extra replacement zipper pulls, smoother wheels & the compression flap - that I don't have on my older Travelpro cases. The extra zipper pulls are nice since I've had almost all of my other pulls torn off during travel (thank you baggage handlers) - This new case will be first for me to grab on my next trip"
I really love this piece.
"I really love this piece. It's not heavy and easy to carry. I will definitely be using this consistently."
Rolling Like a big Shot
"From the first trip, the wheels stood out immediately. They glide effortlessly across every surface—airport tile, carpet, parking lots—you name it. There’s no dragging, no wobble, and no fighting to keep it straight. It tracks perfectly alongside you, almost like it’s doing the work for you. Even when fully packed, the movement stays incredibly smooth and controlled, which makes navigating busy airports and long terminals a breeze. Beyond the wheels, the build quality feels solid and well thought out. The expandable feature is a game changer when you need a little extra room, and the interior compartments keep everything organized without feeling cramped. The handle is sturdy and comfortable, and everything about the bag feels durable enough to handle frequent travel. But honestly, what sets this luggage apart is the effortless mobility. Once you experience how smooth these wheels are, it’s hard to go back to anything else."
Effortless Travel with Style and Space
"I absolutely love my Optima Expandable! It’s lightweight, super durable, and glides effortlessly through the airport. The expandable feature is perfect for extra packing space, and the organization inside is excellent. Stylish, reliable, and worth every penny—highly recommend!"
Small but Mighty
"Lightweight with ample storage. The packing cubes are a nice touch for all the little things that normally occupy so much room."
At first glance, a very
"At first glance, a very stunning color. It appears to be a very sturdy piece of luggage, good storage space, and very convenient additional compartment and separate packaging for accessories. The only downside is the locking mechanism isn’t as user friendly as described by instructions. It took me almost 10 minutes to figure out the way the locks worked. I had my wife try after providing instructions of what I did to unlock it, but still took even longer. Once I got past the locking mechanism, I was able to get to the great piece of luggage that it is."
